Work it Out!

Work Out Tips for 2015!

the prosperity promise work it out fitness afirmations and the law of attractionBeing in good physical condition not only helps you feel better, but it provides many mental benefits as well.  I have been there, done that, and I have been on the opposite end of the spectrum as well.  The bottom line is that you have to make exercise and eating a healthy diet a part of your routine.

Top Ten Tips

Allow yourself time to become your best in 2015.  Rather than diving in with both feet, take baby steps.  If you try and change everything all at once, it can be overwhelming and may cause you to quit.  I have struggled with an extra ten to twenty pounds my entire adult life, and I try to improve my situation every day.  Based on my own experience and tips I have heard from others, here are some steps:

  1. The Prosperity Promise Exercise motivation tips for 2014Exercise is the foundation of fitness – Both cardiovascular and strength training should be incorporated.  You don’t have to hire a personal trainer, but consider working with a professional to formulate a personalized workout plan.
  2. Consider taking a DNA test – This will determine the exact ratio of carbohydrates, protein, and fat you need. This is a quick and simple swab test that can be done through InherentHealth.com.
  3. Drink lots of water throughout the day – It keeps you hydrated, helps fill you up, and is necessary for a well-functioning system.  Consider adding a tablespoon or two of apple cider vinegar to decrease the acidity in your system.
  4. Start the day with protein – At least fifteen grams and a big glass of water.
  5. Know WHY you want to lose weight and/or increase your fitness – If you don’t know the answer to this, it is almost certain you will revert back to your old ways by February.  Whether is it to be able to play sports with your children or to ward off disease, define a specific goal so you always have a purpose.
  6. Think outside the box of traditional exercise – There are all kinds of fun classes: Zumba, RIPPED, Pound, Insanity, Yoga, Pilates.  I take classes at my local recreation center.
  7. If you do splurge, plan it and time it – For example, if you make it through the entire week and feel good about your progress, go off your plan for one to two hours on Saturday night and eat what you want.  I’ve found that when it is planned and timed, it is much easier to get back on board the next day.
  8. Eliminate junk from your diet when you are on-plan – If you choose, you can have this during your two hour splurge.
  9. Live in the gray – Try not to see everything as black or white—perfect or imperfect.  This mentality will get you in trouble.  Eat everything vs. eating very little; exercise five times a week vs. no exercise at all.
  10. Track your daily progress – Use MyFitnessPal or any other number of online programs. Additionally, have a Polar or other device that tells your heart rate and calories burned.                                                                                                                                                                            http://www.weightlossnotes.com

A positive mental attitude toward exercise and fitness will go a long way to helping you attain your goals. Rather than think, “I should go work out” use affirmations. “I feel great, this workout is going to make me feel even better!”

A slight change in your attitude will make a giant change in your life in 2015. “Work it out and I’ll see you in the gym!”

Five Steps for Overcoming Adversity

Before the Problem Occurs

Adversity is coming for all of us.  It doesn’t matter how rich, famous, or successful you are. Throughout our human life, we all face challenges.

Erik Weihenmayer’s Story

“What’s Within You is Stronger Than What’s in Your Way”

This is Erik Weihenmayer’s motto.  Erik, a blind adventurer, is the author of Touch the Top of the World and The Adversity Advantage.  He became blind at the age of 13 after a rare eye disorder took his sight.  He was depressed and trying to adjust to his disability when he saw Terry Fox, a leg amputee with cancer, on television who was running 2000 miles across Canada.  Talk about overcoming adversity! As Erik pressed his face against the television screen with very limited vision remaining only in his right eye, he was inspired to dig deep within himself to face his adversity head on.  Throughout his life, Erik has climbed the highest mountain on each continent, skydived, and recently finished a solo 22–day kayak journey down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon.  This, according to Erik, has been his scariest adventure yet.  Check it out:

Five Steps for Overcoming Adversity

  1. Know that adversity is coming – The human is yet to be born who lived their entire life without adversity.  I’m not saying to expect bad things to happen, but you should be prepared for any eventuality.
  2. When adversity strikes, take a moment – Take time to think about your available options.  There are usually many paths, think outside the box.
  3. Picture your situation as you want it – Visualize the situation and how you would like it to turn out.
  4. Be patient when faced with a challenge – Certain situations call for immediate action, but many times we should weigh the options over a period of time.  Usually time helps us make a better decision.
  5. Take positive action – After you have considered different options and taken time to think through the situation, it is time to take positive action.

The Law of Attraction – Career Advancement

The Waiting is the Hardest Part…

Picture of man jumping on boxes The Prosperity Promise career advancement The Law of AttractionPatience, the waiting phase of the process, is perhaps the most difficult of the steps. As defined, it is the ability to tolerate delay without upset. This can seem difficult in today’s world as our expectations for gratification have changed. Think about all the ways our world is faster today:

  • Communication is so much more instant than it was twenty years ago. Email was the norm in the 1990s, and now that’s not fast enough. We expect an immediate respon
  • Our use of texting to instantly communicate.
  • Instagram allows us to share pictures immediately with the entire world.
  • We use to have to wait for movies to come to TV, now Netflix allows us to watch them on demand.

The key, I have found, to making patience more tolerable is to know with certainty that you will receive the object you are seeking.

Patience is a Critical Part of Career Advancement

As I describe in The Prosperity Promise, I have waited from two days to years to obtain an item or a non-material event such as attending graduate school.  A recent example, not contained in the book, will illustrate this.  I’m a professor of reading and, as another aspect of teaching, I have been involved in trainings through the Department of Education since 2008.  As such, I have received training from national presenters.  I have been fascinated by the idea of traveling around the country, and I always spoke to the presenters so I could find out how to pursue such a position.  After each training, I talked to the presenter, pursued it a bit, waited, talked to the next presenter, pursued it a bit more, waited, etc.  This past summer, I talked to the presenter, waited, and received an email within a few weeks proposing an in-state session I could present and then an out-of-state session a month later. The Law of Attraction is always at work.  When it comes to career advancement, patience is important lest it give way to despair.

Tips for Patience in Career Advancement

  • Be persistent but not overbearing.
  • Work on your skill set to prepare you for the next level.
  • Look at the people in positions above you.  How did they go about advancing their careers?
  • Don’t let despair cause you to self-sabotage.

In The Prosperity Promise, I give specific steps that will enable you to achieve career advancement.

What Worked for Me Will Work for You

You can receive anything you want.  You just have to be patient, and that is not always easy!  In fact, it is the most difficult part of the process in my opinion.  I have gotten fairly proficient at waiting, because I know, without doubt, I will receive what I have requested.  In this example, I did not think about being a national presenter day-after-day, but it was still within my long-term memory and every time I received training—usually one per year—this triggered my long-term memory and brought it to the forefront of my consciousness.  I did not panic that I would not receive this position, I did not fear being rejected.  I simply keep this thought incubating in my mind for five years.   And now, my aspiration of being a national presenter, has been realized due to my patience.  Try it and you, too, will receive anything you want!

Self Help and The Secret on Steroids

When I first read The Secret, written by Rhonda Byrne, I was intrigued! Here was the description of a methodology I had been employing in my own life for many years. I’ve always tried to have a positive attitude and liked concept of The Secret, but I thought it lacked a practical application. So I set out to create one.

The secret and the law of attraction Henry FOrd quote "whether you think you can or you think you can't you're right"

The Law of Attraction

I’ve read many books that describe the Law of Attraction. For those of you not familiar with this principle, it means you attract whatever you think and feel. Your thoughts and feelings, especially the prolonged ones, create your life. The Law of Attraction is there, whether you realize it or not. For example, if you are always thinking, “I need to lose weight,” that is exactly what you’ll get back—the need rather than the weight loss. Similarly, if you say, “I can’t afford that,” your financial state will remain unchanged.

The New Thought Movement

Photo of Prentice Mulford one of the founders of the new thought movementIn 1891, Californian author and humorist Prentice Mulford used the term Law of Attraction in two essays:

  • “Some Laws of Health and Beauty”
  • “Good And Ill Effects of Thought”

Along with Phineas Quimby and others, Prentice help found the New Thought Movement in the early 20th century. The concept of New Thought promotes the ideas that Infinite Intelligence, or God, is everywhere. Although New Thought is difficult to summarize due to the diversity beliefs, new though is firmly grounded in the concept of the healing power of the mind.  It holds that spirit is the totality of real things, true human selfhood is divine, positive divine thought is a force for good, sickness originates in the mind, and as a result “right thinking” has a healing effect.

The Science of Getting Rich

Wallace Wattles the science of getting richMonistic Hindu’s believe that God provides everything and can deliver what we powerfully focus on. Written by Wallace D. Wattles in 19 the book The Science of Getting Rich was based on this principle:

That simply believing in the object of your desire and focusing on it will lead to that object or goal being realized on the material plane.

Wattles also claimed that negative thinking will manifest negative results.

Think and Grow Rich

Think and grow rich cover Napoleon Hill, one of the best selling authors of all time, wrote Think and Grow Rich in 1937. The book detailed 16 “laws” of success after studying individuals who achieved great wealth and success during their lifetimes. While the book was about getting rich, Hill stated that the principles could be applied to any situation. He said an individual with desire, faith and persistence can reach great heights by eliminating negative energy, negative thoughts and focusing on one’s goals.

Over 70 million copies of Think & Grow Rich have sold worldwide. Many people credit the principles in the book with being instrumental to their success.

The Secret

The secret In 2006 Rhonda Byrne created the movie, The Secret. Through interviews with individuals self-described as professionals and authors, the film posits feelings and thoughts can attract feelings, events, and experiences, from the workings of the universe to interactions among people in emotional, physical, and professional areas.

The Secret also tapped into the conspiracy theory that those in power try to keep the central concept hidden from the general public.

The movie was then made into a book which has gone on to sell over 19 million copies. The challenge for me was to translate theory into practice.

Positive Thinking and Self Help – The Prosperity Promise

achieve your goals the prosperity promiseAs you can see, books already exist that described the Law of Attraction—most notably The Secret—and provide expert testimony about applying the principle. What I have been unable to find, however, is a book that describes distinct steps and real-life examples that demonstrate how to apply this principle day-to-day. This is where this book comes in! I have taken examples, from my own life, and I have specifically outlined, in detail, how I acquired each one. Some are small—like dishes—some are large—a car, a house. Anything and everything is possible when you use these principles.
